So, uh, I have this volcano.
« on: December 22, 2010, 01:19:30 am »

A 42 z-level tall volcano, with the magma sea(Which I discovered after one of my miners jumped into the volcano. For some reason.) 45 z-levels below the surface of the lowest point on the map.

Now, what am I gonna do with it?

Carve it out of the mountain, replace all of the walls with green glass, and transform it from a boring old regular volcano to a pump-operated glass volcano of the dwarves!

Yeah, i'd have to import way too much sand. Maybe a 87 z-level executionhappy shaft?

There's a reason megaprojects are called mega.

Nah. Doom shafts can be done on any map, but only on volcano embarks can you build an enormous glass volcano that fills naturally.

It's all a moot point anyway, since there's no water on the map and I forgot to bring sufficient booze. I'll let you know if any dwarves survive.

Build a fortress around the magma pipe and hollow out an empty space around the fortress. Fill with magma.
Fulfill the dream. Make an active volcano inside a fortress inside an active volcano.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Obligatory 'flood the world with magma'.

Somebody had to say it.

Build fortress inside the volcano, then build a magma-pump stack running the center of it. Build hatches over top of fortress. Laugh at invaders that get burned trying to get in.

You mean the ability to have endless training dummies, a carpet of eyestalks and tendrills, and a plant that both makes for some good grizzled sea man hard liquor AND the ability to turn your dwarves into the Night´s Watch...not reward enough?

Well, the caravan didn't bring enough booze, so I won't make it past winter.

Guess I'll do this, then.
