Aquifiers appear somewhat unpredictably in soil layers. Best way to deal with them is to find a location that's partway into a mountain. that way you have aboveground stone, and getting stone is the biggest downside to a location with an aquifier.

Note that you'll get the "This location has an aquifier" warning if even one square of the local embark map includes an aquifier. use the F1, F2, etc. keys to see if your location has multiple biomes, possibly including at least one without the aquifier.
A newcommer? To our humble forums? BRING FORTH A BARREL OF CIDER! Time to blow some sit up.

Is some Strawberry Wine alright with you?

It shall do, as long as there is plenty of it.

b to enter the build menu, then b again to select beds. This will allow you build a bed so that it can be used.

Or p to enter the stockpiles, then u to select furniture, and then map out an area, if you just want to store the bed for later.

thanks, havong a hard time finding mud for a farm.

Mud is created when water flows over land. The usual method of doing this is draining water in from a murky pool or a river into a pre-dug area you want to farm in. Make sure you understand how to use floodgates before trying to take from a river though.

um, you positioned it wrong then, here's how it should look

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If the water is flowing while the floodgate is closed (and floodgates are closed by default), you positioned it wrong.

Why congratulations, it seems you have flooded your fortress with no way to halt the flow of water.

We all made mistakes in the beginning. I know I made my fair share.
