Crash at embarking?
« on: October 30, 2007, 04:06:00 am »

I created a world and then tried to embark upon some fort building, both times in range of some mountains.  The first time I prepared carefully (well, sorta), the second time just went with the "play now" option.  The game crashed both times when I embarked.  I might try creating a new world first to see if I can work around this.

I'm having exactly the same problem. Crashes on embark in fortress mode. Tried creating a new world, same problem. Adventure mode works fine.

Any ideas? I'm not sure how much longer I can put up with everyone else having a good time but me.

(I'm on a rock solid, patched up XP system, with an Intel dual-core CPU, 4GB RAM, 8800GTX graphics.)

Were these in clean fresh new folders unrelated to the old version?  I know there have been lots of bizarre and strange things happening on embark in folders that were copied over the older version.

If you have a world from a new folder that's reliably crashing on embark, I might be able to use that to fix the problem.

Problem solved. Deleted the old folder, created a new DF folder, then generated a new world. All's well.
