In any case, it's a nice and cleanly household. Very charming. :)
Actually, you have the same chance of getting lice wether you are clean or you aren't.
It's all about how much of that physical contact you make with other people. So basically only filthy degenerate socialisers get headlice.

For my terror: accidentally set Winamp to play from my Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 CD, but it seemed to have kept a short backlog of the CD that had been in there before, so started playing like normal for a few seconds before sudden unpredictable hissing noises.

EDIT: WTF, there's actual music on this disk. Straight readable into a music player as long as you go to the right time on the track. None of it sounds like anything I recognise from in-game either. Pretty spooky sounding. Obviously Chris Sawyer must have accidentally put the print copy on the same disk as his unsettling music collection.

Most likely it's just that you happened to run into a section where the data happened to coincide with sounds in the human audible range.

No, it's music. As in, repeating patterns of sounds with recognisable progressions and stuff. I'm not talking like a vaguely tuneful set of semi-random notes. I mean it's got percussion, melody, all that stuff. Music.

It could be CD-XA.

http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/definition/CD-ROM-XA

It could also just be raw PCM formatted audio files in the data track. CDDA is raw PCM, with IIRC, 48bit encoding, 441000hz stereo. The extra overhead of the sector data would hardly even make a dent in the audition of the data when played.

Nosebleeds #3 and #4 struck this evening. #3 was in the bathroom of the Thai restaurant I went out to eat at. Blood everywhere. Used all their toilet paper and most of their disinfectant trying to clean things. Tipped $10 on a $12 meal.

#4 was just now in the shower. Ten, fifteen minutes long. More blood. So much blood. Blood everywhere. Eventually stopped when I switched to very cold water to clog up my nostrils more

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I empathize with you. I'm not sure that I've had it quite that bad, but I've had it pretty bad in the past. I think it may have something to do with that scrap of paper I stuck way the fuck up my nostril when I was like, 8. Not entire sure though. Unfortunately, I really can't give anymore advice than pinch your nose including the bridge and stuff a rolled up scrap of tissue in it when you get the chance; that was all I could really do. Well, going to college in a more humid environment has worked wonders, but that may not be an option for you.

Oklahoma. It's dry as hell, especially in my apartment.

I've been there. Having a massive bloody nose in social situations? Check. Filling a shower with blood? Check. Being forced to walk around for a few hours with bloodstains on my shirt? Check. Getting bloodstains all over someone else's bathroom? Check.

The best advice I can give you is to pinch your nose on or above the bridge and avoid anything that increases blood pressure (so stay calm). I tend to avoid putting things in my nose to block the bleeding because it tears the clot apart when I take it out, but I use tissues or paper towels at the opening part of my nostrils to keep the blood from spilling out.

bedbugs, lice, and other associated blood sucking insect pests are basically what you get when you cram too many people into too tight of a physical locality.  Impossible to control, because you cant de-louse or kill ALL of the pests all at once in the city-- so they become this crawling menace that creeps from room to room, floor to floor, building to building, slowly getting selectively bred to resist every imaginable toxin.  When people have more room, it becomes more difficult for the small flightless insects to migrate between host clusters, making them easier to eradicate completely, and cuts down on their adaptation rates. (Sorry New York, but seriously-- You are one giant super-bedbug factory in my mind. That's all you are.)

I never understood the desire to live crammed up in a highrise like that.  I expect it would be a serious problem should humans ever develop interstellar space flight as well.

Short of designing a virus, or a version of wolbachia tailored for bedbugs, I don't see an effective solution to the problem that hutch-dwelling humans have created concerning these pests.

Have you ever had to get on a public bus with blood all over your hands and mouth? That was fun.
Giving a bus driver a handful of bloodstained coins as blood ran down my face was very memorable.

Afterwards I toured an art gallery, then I washed my hands and spent two hours drawing... I didn't notice how bad it was until I looked in the mirror at my house.

If those are recurring, I advise keeping on hand something along the lines of this:
http://www.cvs.com/shop/health-medicine/first-aid/first-aid-kit/wound-seal-powder-for-people-on-blood-thinners-skuid-888211

It will pretty much instantly put a stop to it.

I accidentally left a plastic spatula in contact with a stove element, and now the whole kitchen smells like toxic fumes.

Also cooling the back of your neck seems to help for some reason, usually with a wet piece of cloth or something. My nose used to bleed a lot when I was younger because in all my youthful curiosity I wanted to find out if a toy car wheel could fit into my nose. It could, and it damaged some stuff while it was in there for a while, took a couple of years of the damn thing to heal fully.
