Finally putting my new PC together. And no matter how many times I've done this now, I still always get a big case of nerves. Did I apply the thermal paste right? (Probably.) Did I fuck anything up because I installed the heatsink bracket incorrectly the first time and tension was pretty unevenly balanced at one point? (Probably? not. That's one of those things you find out when you turn it on.) Do I have the clearance for all these over-sized parts? (Yes, as usual, measured in fractions of inches.) Do I have enough power for this thing to run under load? (Probably, again, it has to start up period to find this out.) Did I really get that memory seated correctly? (Yes.) Are any of the parts I bought bad? (Will only know when it fails to start.)

Ugh. Excuse me, I must make go obeisances to the Omnissiah and pray for success. Now where did I put my sacred machine oils.....

The machine spirit must have been gratified by the build ritual, because it started right up when I struck the activation rune.

It was, however, a bit tempermental about the Omnissiah's System Operatus, rejecting the first attempted installation with the Blue Screen of Chastisement, due to some additional modules I tried to install from the driver discus. A reminder not to meddle in the Mysteries I don't really understand that well.

After I placated the machine spirit (by sitting patiently for about 2 hours while it tried to start or shut down and failed), and repeated the installation from the beginning, the Omnissiah granted me success, although this took several hours. The machine spirit continues to be tempermental about the USB 3.0 programs and rites as well. I suppose every machine spirit is a little different. Consulting the archives of the Internet, it seems a most sacred BIOS update is in order. Though it offends the Omnissiah for his routines and data-spirits to not be updated, I'm going to try to avoid that unless necessary, for to fail the BIOS update is to stab the machine spirit in its very heart. I'm not really that badly in need of USB 3.0, truth be told.
