Airbrakes, they leak sometimes and the pads slip.

While constructing my final collection of images and an artist's statement for my digital photography class, some of the images got corrupted in the process of being copied. As a fan of Slenderman and the fanworks based around him, I was equal parts interested and freaked out.

Spoiler: One of them (click to show/hide)

On another note, does anyone know how to create this effect artificially?

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

You could probably figure out how to do it in Photoshop, just from looking at it... Selecting that area just below the door, moving it the right, gradmapping it and hyper-contrasting it along with a few brushes and a bit of manual coloring to get the green line could probably do something similar, but I doubt it would be worth the effort.

I'm not sure how you'd get the odd corruption that looks like paint splatters though. As I said, manually doable, but not worth the effort.
Grunge brushes, probably...

Convert it to PNG and delete a random chunk of data by opening it in a hex editor or Notepad or something. Post results.

Or bit-shift it.

You could probably get a similar effect on any given area by greatly lowering the contrast to blur similarly colored things together, colorizing it a bunch in any given color direction, then cranking the contrast back up again to get differences between the different colored areas.

(Just a guess though, I'd need to mess around more to get an exact answer).

That worked surprisingly well.

So. You know how the South African government sucks at sevice delivery (it does)? You know how semi-peaceful protests about this are a long standing tradition in the New South Africa (they are)?

They're likely to start up again soon. That doesn't scare me.

You know how the Long Range Acoustic Device may be a violation of human rights (it may be)? Well, the police are seriously considering using it. A device that's not, as far as I can tell, much better than lethal force, against mostly peaceful crowds.

I wonder when they'll get the purple dye back out.

Meh, all it takes is a cheap pair of earplugs and their pricey toy is useless. A wire mesh pavise, on the other hand...

It doesn't make it better that it's easy to counter. What worries me is that they're actually seriously thinking of using it.

One should always expect whomever is in control to use every tool at their disposal to remain in control, and to quell dissent. It is sad, but not unexpected. In the least. It is also terrifying, because this appears to have been the case throughout history. Much like grandparents griping about "kids these days"
