So I'm lying in bed, in my room, with my back to the window, at night. I'm trying to fall asleep, so all the lights are out. The window is open. I hear a scratching noise outside of the open window, and think, "oh, that's probably just a tree in the wind, scratching the roof". However, the noise continues, and I realize that it sounds like there is something with claws walking around out there. This, of course, makes me think of my childhood nightmares in which a wolf lurked outside of this very window. I decide to look out of the window to assure myself that there isn't, in fact, anything out of the ordinary out there.

I look at the trees that I think are scratching the roof.

There is no wind. The trees are not moving.

All of a sudden, I see movement in my peripheral vision.

I look towards the movement and at first glance, see a black, furry head with large ears looking back at me.

I almost pooped myself.

Fortunately, upon closer inspection, it turned out that it was not a scary animal about to climb through the open window and devour me in my sleep, it was actually just a curious kitten.
