Very nearly could of ended up going to the ER a couple of minutes ago.
I was driving over to my grandmothers house in the dark in one of these .  However, ours doesn't have functional brakes or a seatbelt.  Suddenly I see something in my peripheral vision.  I feel something on the side of my neck, and grab at it with both hands.  I try to tear it off, but it's not moving, and the pressure on the other side of my neck is tightening.  After another few moments, I realize that it was my school badge, which I forgot I still had on.  At this point, I realize I had stepped on the gas pedal, and I was headed straight towards the woods.  I swerve to the right, and miss a big oak tree by only two or three feet.  I then spent a few minutes just sitting there contemplating what happened.

In my defense I am planning on helping my dad put in new brakes on Sunday, and I rarely drive at any speed that's faster then an average jog.  And even when they were working (They only just broke a few days ago) I barely ever used the brakes.  But the seatbelt... yeah, I don't really have any defense for that.

Hey. Falcon.

Glorious invention, you might have heard about it over the last few centuries.

Rope.

If you want to be a fancy asshole and NOT bisect yourself in a collision, I'd suggest a padded rope.

But still.

Even better, you can probably go to a junk yard and grab a seatbelt off a dead car.

I don't need any of that fancy padded seatbelt stuff.  Just give me a good old hemp rope, and I'll be perfectly fine.
I think that me and my Dad are planning on doing that when we go to get some parts for my current truck, which has enough non-functioning parts that even I won't drive in it.
Also, until we get brakes and stuff installed I am using my grandparents version, which does have all the fully functional safety gear in it.  No need to tell them, or my parents, the exact reason.  Just that I feel unsafe being 10 feet around the thing.

I'm switching between very happy and very apathetic just about every day now.

This is kinda scaring me.

Yeah, I knew a person who drove a ute with no functioning brakes. You know how they actually braked?

Put it in first gear and put the handbrake on. Burned their transmission out quicker than anything, and got them pulled off the road with an UNROADWORTHY sticker. besides the massive fine and loss of licence.

That's unhealthy, I think. You might oughta talk to a doctor about it. There might be a therapy you can do or some other underlying issue that needs resolved.
