There may actually be a chance for a cure. Or at least for the common cold.
One of the comments on that said overpopulation is a myth. I wanted to remove his capacity for breeding and ease overpopulation a bit.

The mutant gene CCR5-Δ32 is present in 15-20% of the European population, and conveys natural immunity to Smallpox, the Bubonic Plauge, and most STDs (including HIV).
