Husks hurt more

But seriously husks are about as close to invincible as this game comes.

EDIT:  Its my understanding that husks are deadlier because they retain their speed and gain attributes.  All the husks I've seen (one fort's worth) have been fast and aggressive, while most of the thralls are slow.

Either one is pretty hard to put down, 'specially in melee.

EDIT:EDIT:  Looking around people seem to agree they are about the same thing.

yea, i agree too.  my last world had fog zombies which lowered my speed by half.  this world i just started has murk husks.  haven't got one yet but the dwarves i tested it on seemed to have no affect on their speed.

I have a question.
I have gotten a quest involving me killing a vampire lord in a dark fortress.
But when I got to the area there was nothing/no one there.
It says I'm at the fortress and yet all I see is flat land.

Only human style towns exist in this version.

How can I fire weapons out of crossbows? Ive heard people talk about shooting swords and axes around here, but I can figure it out for the life of me.

I think you're confusing that with throwing. To throw items press 't', select the item you wish to throw, and select your target. Note that your accuracy depends mostly on your throwing skill. (Crossbows only shoot bolts).

I did that a while ago, so I'm not sure if I remember correctly. You have to equip a crossbow and another weapon and then throw the weapon at the opponent. If it kills him, you'll get the announcement "[Enemy] has been shot and killed" and it should result in an entry in legends mode how you shot a weapon from a crossbow to kill somebody. I'm not 100% sure about legends mode though.
It has the same effect as throwing the weapon, it's just funnier.

"Shot and killed" is the default announcement for throwing-inflicted kills in both adventurer and fortress mode. Equipping a crossbow is not required for that.

So I made a fortress in a world where I have a pretty overpowered dwarf axe lord necromancer in steel armour.

Fortress biome is rockly wasteland, no trees but mineral rich and best of all, a clown car. Perfect. Most of my dorfs are killed once breaching third cavern and I abandon the fort.

On the way to the for my adventurer travels through a evil forest and is rained on by some "putrid filth" which is a rather sickly purple colour.

Since then (days later) he is continuously retching and vomiting. It won't stop. Nothing on Health screen. He doesn't seem to die because he is a necromancer though.

I have encountered three evil zones so far in this world, one rained human blood, one had nefarious ash clouds which caused things to bleed to death and rained abhorrent goo which didn't seem to do anything, so this is the first one I have seen with proper syndrome rain.

So question is:

1. Is there any way to see the weather syndrome data? Once it is randomly generated does it appear in the RAWs?

2. Will this last forever? Is there anyway to tell how long it will last?

There may be a third party way, but my suggestion is to not go through evil biomes if you dont want to be husked/ the challenge. Rain is almost always kinder than clouds, and usualy doesnt last forever.  Find a nice safe place like a town and wait for a week or so.  WCS retire the guy and unretire him. This advances time to the first of next year.

If  it is forever at least its nonlethal.  By using the clouds button whem fast traveling and paying attention you can avoid the worst of it.

Lastly, make sure you go for a swim before resting it off.  Contaminents can reinfect you.

My adventurer killed a cave dragon, in the cave I found some eggs and I'm curious if I can have them hatch?
Also I didn't add any skills into reading on my current adventurer who is quite succesful, or at least the best I've had this far and I wonder if I in any way can add the skill with hacks/cheats.

You can't get them hatch.

DFFusion (integrated into DFHack) has one adventure mode tool for making all your skills legendary. It can also heal you.
