Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with me. (Basically anything David Lynch will engage your brain on some level.)
Donnie Darko, a must.
Session 9.
The Quest (Aka Frog Dreaming. It's 80's Disney, but it's fucking awesome.)
Memento
Fight Club
Fallen
The Ninth Gate (It's only ok.)

I highly approve of damn near everything mentioned by people so far.

And it's by George Lucas, too. And yes, the THX sound stuff is named after THX-1138.

I recommend watching Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards. It's pretty recent, a 2009 film I think, and it's got a pretty interesting take on WWII. It's the first movie I've seen that makes the Nazi soldiers look human (And not the cold "robots" they are in other films).

[Misspelling Nazi] It's called "Inglourious Basterds". [/Misspelling Nazi]

Sukiyaki Western Django, a ridiculous japanese western movie that somehow wasn't produced by Tarantino. Its just so bad its hilarious. Also Tarantino does a cameo appearance in it, and admits to being an otaku, like we didn't know that already.

Alternatively, if you want some mindfuck-good movies, try anything with young Malcom Mcdowell in it:

O lucky man.

If...

A Clockwork Orange.

Caligula.

Alternatively, watch Twilight (yea, that one), its more funny then any comedy movies of late! I mean, I'm a evil creature that wats to kill you and suck your blood >:C! Wanna go for a piggyback ride in the woods? Lol kay!

I've watched a few of these suggestions now, and I'm pretty damn impressed.  Is there any interest in a checklist with a brief opinion on each film as I watch it?

Being that this is a forum, I think you have the right to opine whether people are interested or not :P These are the kinds of suggestions though where you want to talk to SOMEONE after watching them.

Heh, true dat.

Once again I'm the wrong side of 36 hours awake, so I'll get started tomorrow.
It's not on the list, but I just watched American Beauty, and I will say without shame that I cried a little.

Oh, hey, I just remembered about the "Children of Men"! It's brilliantly minimalistic and uber-gritty, that is, for a blockbuster. It's got the second best one-shot scene I've ever seen(after Old Boy's corridor). And it's got Clive Owen saying his trademark "fuck" - nobody says "fuck" like that guy does.

You might enjoy Control, about British band, The Joy Division, or Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, about Ian Dury. Both great films.

some movies that are both bad and good depending on whom you ask:

wasabi (like leon but better and worse, btw, watch leon if you did not.)
transporter x (we need a whole lot of more films with statham, it's like if they cloned bruce willis and put him on steroids)
hot fuzz (it's half serious the way shun of the dead is, btw the actors are the same)

everything from tim burton after his batman

guest star in the good and bad list:
the dark knight (very good mod, exceptional acting, quite lame story as you would expect from a batman movie)

aaaaaand, for the grand finale, the most hated film of ever:
disney's pocahontas, the filmavatar

now, before jumping at my throat, I disliked that film just like everybody else.

but is one of the very few films that has a villain that 'actually makes senses'
logically, strategically and resource wise

Just finished TAKEN a.k.a. "the Bourne Paternity"...I was quite entertained...

"Particular set of skills that will make their lives very miserable" indeed.

On the other hand the total input of all the heroes was irrelevant to the final outcome.

This is a good film and surprisingly rewatchable.

In the whole The Room line of wonderful films I'd also add Manos hands of fate and Overdrawn at the memory banks.
