I've embarked on a combined sinister & terrifying biome, and have killed off three dwarves. They're all rotting where they lie, and nothing has happened with undeath yet (three months in).

Oh god

Yeahp. Unfortunately, there's a massive-ass aquifer, because I only wanted a minifort to see what was new in this release. The ogres continue to entertain, as well.

Don't laugh. She has an adamantine battle axe.

It looks like the targeting is working just fine for the ogre.  Every hit you posted in that screenshot was to the head, as it should be on a prone target.  The problem is he's trying to beat your dwarf to death with a silk mitten!

Come to think of it, he's probably trying to challenge the dwarf to a duel, but they can't oblige because the challenge knocks them unconscious.

Four months in, the ogre beating down my expedition leader finally died - presumably of exhaustion, because the poor dwarf was unconscious the entire time.

My FPS jumped from 20 to 150. Looks like combat is now very, very CPU-intensive.

On an unrelated note, has anybody noticed that dwarves don't become 'thirsty' or 'dehydrated' before dying of thirst?

EDIT:
With the old wildlife gone, two ogresses moved onto the map. There is now one ogress in my fortress, ripping the legs off my camel, and another one chasing around the last survivor of my fort. I may have to cheat, because I want to keep investigating the

Actually, go ahead and laugh. Last i checked, Toady still hasn't fixed the "weight=damage" thingy, so an Adamantine Axe wouldn't do too much.

I'd wager that by 2011, DF players will have found an (ab)use for Dante's new friend.

I think it was already pretty nasty, if maybe not as much. I've had slowdowns in otherwise functional fortresses when six dogs ganged on a kobold thief.

Then again, I dont have a great computer and I was already  skitting the fps edge.

Doesn't the axe factor edge more than weight most of the time?

Aren't you thinking of adamantine war hammers? At least from what I've seen, adamantine battle axes cut through bone like a knife through hot butter. She's killed 3 forgotten beasts with her axe, and this was back when she was a low ranking novice that was later promoted due to her skill (and her superior officers being devoured by the aforementioned Forgotten Beasts).

May I venture a guess that a rock slab is for non-coffin burials?  Say, for "burying" someone that no longer has remains.

It doesn't appear to be. I built one, and as far as I can tell it serves the same purpose as a statue. Not sure exactly what the point is.
Try linking it to a lever then pull the lever and see what happens.

Tried to do this. You can't link slabs to lever. However, I did notice a new option for lever linking....floor bars. What are floor bars?

And I still have no clue as to what slabs do. They just seem like statues in every way.

I think floor bars are metal poles that have been laid in the floor like a flat portcullis.
