Don't regularly like doing this, but it seems like it could bear repeating:

Inflamatory thread is inflamatory.

OP said he was writing out of anger, and his generalizations were born of anger. That was hurt talking; hurt because he had a bad end to a bad relationship. Then, his words struck a raw chord with many people. They were hurt, or hurt by proxy on behalf of others. They responded in anger.

The cycle continued, as volleys were lobbed back and forth. No, things said out of anger aren't okay, and often aren't what we mean. I think a lesson some folks could take from this thread is that, though a natural and healthy response, one shouldn't say hurtful things out of your own hurt and anger. Disparaging comments to others, generalizations, or getting incensed about things not meant.

The argument portion of the thread became a vicious cycle of bitter remarks, and pushed into personal attack territory. I think everything that need be said about this has been said... at this point, the poor horse has been killed, the corpse has been flogged severely, and now it's head is being tossed back and forth into the beds of one another's sleeping arguments.

You definitely said show me yours.  You've really let yourself go, Chairman.

Well if the difference is that important, making sure you get it right is also important. :P

I generally expect them not to.  And "just because the other side would" gives no one a good excuse.  Eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind, and all that.

Collective moaning/rantig is one of the most common techniques of social bonding.
This rituals often take place, without the participants actually meaning and believing in what they said.

The few instances, where i joined such a moan/rant, was while being severely drunk (which does only happen very rarely and probably won't happen anymore).
That doesn't mean I hold a grudge against women or think of them as lesser beings.

The fact that it's common doesn't make it any more right...

Look, man, I'm going to say this one more time: I have nothing against you.  I do not think you are a bad person.  Heck, I like you!  I like your character, I like talking to you, and the fact that you defended the OP is not going to make me like you less.

One last time:

I am not arguing about intent.  I think of you guys highly.  I am arguing about the unintended consequences your actions have on others.  I am asking you to change your actions because they are doing bad things that you probably don't know about.  That's it!  Plain and simple.

I think he's performing satire on what he thinks I'm saying.
I'm sorry it seemed that way. I never intended to incriminate what you were saying.

Hey, thanks for the clarification.  I wasn't quite sure what you were responding to, and whether or not you actually meant what you said.

So you're appealing to us, to be more mindful about what we say and to whom, am I getting this right?
If yes, then alright, message received.

As I already said, I moan about systems rather than people anyway.

It's a perfectly fine word.
You better get used to hearing it.
