You could see about getting some quicklime, dries it out and tamps down the stink of rot a bit. Also helps counter the effects of decay on the underlying soil ph.

Failing that, depending on how fresh it is, it might be worth finding something sharp to make a few cuts or punctures with, preferably from a bit of a distance so a knife is kind of a last resort unless you have a strong stomach. Gross, but speeds up decomp and minimises the risk of future corpse explosion.

Both methods might make you feel like a serial killer mind you.

How rotted is it that you can't tell what species it was though? I would have thought a hog and a dog were rather distinct even after death. Or is it tangled up in plants?

Maybe some beadwork?  Walmart (I know, I know) has a lot of little $1 packets of beads and wire.  Along with some $10 kits with tools.  There's also that popular brand of colored plastic thingies for making designs, dunno what he's up for at 8.

Maybe Lego?  I assume it never went out of style.

Sadly he has no patience for crafting type stuff. He likes lego, but doesn't really like to build it, and he's already getting a bunch.

It doesn't help that his birthday is Christmas, so he gets all his gifts on the one day, and gets a lot of them. Makes it harder to work out what he'd actually like when there isn't a gap of a few months for him to shift his interests.

Not plants, it's in some junk in one of the outbuilding things. The way it's laying I couldn't see the head or the feet, and it's big enough it could be a relatively small hog. Hogs and dogs usually are distinct even in death, but this particular case bloating has made the shape close enough to could be either and the primary distinctions aren't visible.

Oooof, that's rough.  I have two family members with Jan 1 birthdays, it's tricky.  One of them petitioned for a June birthday celebration but was shot down.  A shame.

So it's in a shed type of thing? Yeah that's going to suck to get rid of.

Do you get corpses on the property often, or is this a rare thing?

Nah, not in a shed... forget what the exact term is, there's a roof and concrete floor attached to the side of a shed but no walls on that part of the thing. Not quite a barn, not quite a garage, it was just a covered-ish area for like... putting chickens under or working on small vehicles or whatever. It's outside, just not on dirt.

... anyway, large corpses aren't common, no. Smaller ones probably would be, but there's a passel of cats around the house so they mostly get eaten by something instead of sitting around.

anything that has money to promote it's content is invalid.
Any business which can afford to advertise to me is not in need of more money to survive. Therefore ads are an efficient means of deciding what not to buy. By spending your money on things which aren't advertised to you, you're supporting people most in need while placing a force against accumulation and conglomeration, making the market more consumer friendly by preserving more options which would otherwise be pushed out of business.
Right?  I also felt like [The little lizard company] couldn't possibly be the best choice for insurance because of their extravagant ad-campaign.  I don't know if other companies are passing me the savings, but all I know about that company is that it's spending an awful lot to try to convince people.  They aren't using facts and logic, either, just circuses.

There's a flipside wherein a company does need SOME exposure to be fairly considered, but I remain deeply skeptical of that lizard.  Coke and Pepsi too.  I used to get a lot of flack for being "too indie", but trying diverse things is brave and sometimes I find something like birch soda that I love on its own merits.

If your competitors are all swindlers and conmen, what choice do you have?

As for Lizard Insurance specifically, they actually HAVE the ability to offer insurance cheaper than their competition because they're owned by the company that insures the insurance companies.

Essentially, their cost-to-do-business is LESS than their competition. But that's too "smart", and probably too sleezy, plus their ABILITY to provide a cheaper product does Not guarantee a cheaper product.

So they use a cute lizard as a shill.

Flo's company sucks, but they're at least nice to look at. Whether you're into Flo, Jamie, or any of the other Clerks, they've got quite the assortment of, ehem, products.

You don't have to buy birch juice Rolan you can just go out in the forest and stick a tap in a random tree and drip your own. It's tradition here :D

Ah yes, the beloved tradition of drinking trees.

I'm all into hugging trees but drinking their sap is off limits.  Diabetes risk.

it's also a little different than the diet soda made from their bark :P
I did chew on certain wild leaves growing up though, a naturalist showed us which ones were safe (lots of unsafe berries out there, not to mention mushrooms!).  Wild onions and my mom's herb garden too.  Fun times.

Ya'll need some more birch sap

I also had a glance at Wikipedia (but the English one didn't have any good pictures so i went for the video instead), but it did say that it was one of the main ingredients in amish birch beer so you're drinking birch sap whether you want it or not :P

I've noticed that the lime doesn't get rid of the smell that well, so I've found that you've got to cover the lime covered corpse with a tarp then stuff on top to keep the tarp in place also I found that covering the edges of the tarp with dirt kept almost all of the stank in last time I did this.
