The bleach will likely already be looted.  The nurses and other medical professionals will have absconded with it at the early outset of the disaster, as it is a powerful and effective decontaminating agent for clothing and surgical suites.

That and all the hydrogen peroxide.  For the same reasons.

Not sure if it's really a poor man's workaround when bleach and Drano are about equally expensive per unit volume, at least around here, but yes, microwaving it makes all the safety issues worse. It can also over-unclog pipes (or rather need more than would be chemically indicated), since you get fragments from the clog diffusing back through the bulk of the liquid and reacting further when they're already not part of the clog anymore. The thickener's helpful there.

This is a bit shit. I'm supposed to go do stuff but I just want to put on more layers and crawl back into bed. Also, the "new replies" glitch strikes again.   


Edit: I need to read more Huxley. So far I've just read one of his more, I don't know, "normal" novels: Those Barren Leaves. It was very, very good even if it wasn't as out-there as some of his other works. I also read the start of his treatise on LSD (I think it was The Doors of Perception), but I was on a trip (no, not that kind) and am not sure where that book ended up. Maybe it's just somewhere in the huge pile of books I acquired on that trip, still all stacked under my bed from when I emptied my suitcase.

Current sort-of-WTF (more like that there isn't anywhere else where this fits) is that I have a feeling that my monograph will end up talking a lot more about Duke Robert "Guiscard" de Hauteville and Emperor Alexios I Komnenos than I expected.

For the record, the theme is how much of a role (or how little, if that is the case) the Papacy had in conflicts between the Normans of southern Italy and the Byzantine Romans during the 11th century.

Reason for the focus being those two is that to my dismay I found that while there were conflicts between other figures, most of what happened was between those two.

At least reading the Alexiad is sometimes amusing in how the author (Anna Komnenos, daughter of Alexios) frequently stops to fawn over men she was attracted to, to shit-talk both the Pope, the Holy Roman Emperor and Duke Robert, or to state for the hundreth time the following line "...and so he, the Great Domestic, Alexios, who was my father...".
