Why do super jerks often end up being... shady in one way or another?

On another forum, there is somebody seriously arguing that fanfiction does not have a bad reputation because so much of it is extremely low quality, or that there is no editiorial filter, or that a lot of it is just lazily produced porn. No, he says, the only reason fanfiction is derided is because a lot of women write fanfiction.

Ugh, such nonsense.
Women don't write fanfiction! Fanfic is primarily an internet thing.  Everybody knows there are no girls, let alone women, on the internet- so how could they be contributing to the cesspit that is fanfiction?? Checkmate.

Is there a term for escalation created by paying to solve a problem, and thus people do less to alleviate the problem because they know you are willing to pay?

With Microtransactions there is very much a concept of making it convincing to skip the grind. Yet the #1 counter argument of this is the "Person who has no time to play".

So a person doesn't have time to play and wants to skip over the boring tedious sections. Now there is a genuine value in skipping content.

So they make the game more tedious and thus the person has even less time to play the actual good parts of the game, so they have to pay more. So they make it longer and more tedious, and thus they have to pay more.

It is kind of interesting that over time the person who "Doesn't have time to play" ends up with a boring tedious game.

But what is the term for that kind of escalation?

It's close to "throwing good money after bad" - that's what the person paying ends up doing, I guess, as their initial investment was not a good plan and created the circumstances for their second.
