Oh, yeah. But as you and pretty much everyone else has said, it's practically guaranteed to be some shithead who calls themselves a gamer because they play whatever the popular social media time-waster is. Someone like that trying to tackle the issue is the opposite of productive because they're pretty much guaranteed to take the "gamers are universally misogynistic shitlord dogs" tack, and we've all seen how well that works.

Though in all honesty the level of misogyny drops by about 1000% once you stop playing with people in the 8-21 demographic. Even within the same game, even when that game is a haven for horrible shitty people. Take Rust. I've played on two types of servers: typical ones, which are full of sixteen year old tryhards and small children aping them, which are utter cancer in every possible way; and chill low-pop ones dominated by people in their twenties and thirties. The latter not only have sane social dynamics but also an appreciable percentage of female players.

It's actually not unlike otaku culture and anime, the loud weird creeps are the most visible, so they're universalized (and not entirely unfairly), and they become embedded in the new generations of creators. But if you step outside of games that are typical teenage-male-jackass circlejerks it's often almost bizarre how quickly the attitudes change.

I dunno about how B12 ranks misogyny-wise, but I'm with Doze; we're pretty dang progressive here as a community. Not always, of course, but I certainly don't see this place becoming, say, Return-of-Kings-tier any time soon.

Yeah, and I'm not sure I'd blanket-describe the community as liberal. Most of the polthread arguments and bans (among other things) came about because of a distinct lack of liberal attitudes.

Remember folks, liberalism != progressivism. Just because the U.S. has decided that conservative = right-wing and liberal = left-wing doesn't mean it's true.

I am not particularly liberal, I don't think, but I do believe mistreatment based on gender and orientation is unreasonable and generally a waste of time. It is more of a benefit for the mistreater, I believe. Something to kick at, something to be locked in valiant, righteous struggle with, et cetera. An excellent way to build a (rather rickety) resemblance of purpose and identity.

As for the d0rfy view on things, I do not have time to discriminate. Indeed, I tend to like having mothers of multiple children in charge or at least part of the fortress guards. I like to think they will fight all the harder to defend their cubs.
