Incidentally, the point of the label is the irony. It's the sort of thing embraced by the same type of self-aggrandizing jerk that call themselves activists because they harass people online and sign change.org petitions with fake names. It summarizes in a pretty phrase the exact core of the problem, people taking tiny bullshit and blowing it up to seem like the world rests on it.

Well...no. The point of the label is the same reason Christians are called Christians. Did you know that originally, 'Christian' was supposed to be an insult, but that they adopted it and became proud of the label? And that this happens quite often? Social Justice Warrior was embraced because a. if you think you're in the right, it's simple enough to say 'if that means I fight for social justice, then damn right I am' and b. their opponents used the term first, and they simply adopted it, like many groups do, as a way of showing that they won't get to them, and that their labels can't hurt the movement.
