Our national news' weather guy reported that there is something weird going on at the north pole.
The arctic circle is 20C warmer there than the average temperature for this time of year. As a result, the amount of sea ice within the arctic circle is at an all time low.
Contrary though, in Siberia and Northern China an area about the size of the North Pole it is 20C colder than it should be.
Weather guy says he has never seen such a deviation from average temperature on the North Pole in his career.

TV advertisement, paraphrased:

"Here are five reasons why our product is better than that of our competitors:"
  • Appeal to nationalism
  • Appeal to nature
  • Subjective opinion

The marketers apparently didn't know how to argue non-fallaciously. Or how to count.

Let me guess: Made in MURRICA, all-natural, and this one guy said it was cool?

But anyway, it isn't a fallacy if it gets sales. :P

That's because there hasn't been one, particularly for as long as it's been holding, in living memory. Things are looking a fair bit like we're going to have an ice free arctic (or close enough it doesn't matter) before the end of the decade, heh. Iirc the predictions were more like 2025 or somethin'.

... which, uh. Yeah, isn't good. Plenty of likely knock-on effects. Forgot exactly what a lot of them were but it'd be worse than we were expecting, in any case.

Supports domestic/local business, unlikely to have harmful artificial chemicals in it, and other people like it. For the record, reviews happen to be one of the best ways to figure out how you're likely to feel about a product. Witnesses are also one of the worst evidences you can put forward in court, in terms of accuracy and reliability, even though they're considered the best, funnily enough.

Just about all arguments have fallacies. That's there's such a thing as the fallacy fallacy :P

That said it's a tv commercial so you'll need salt anyway.

I loathe appeal to nature.

It is RARELY ever logical. At least appeals to nationalism kind of fulfil the role of nationalistic pride... Sure a Beer claiming it is AMERICAN or CANADIAN doesn't really make it so, but if it forges that identity then by what means isn't it?

But Appeal to Nature? -_-

A website made the argument that conservatism is true because conservative women are prettier. What the fuck? How is anybody that stupid?

Because the components of goodness are: Truth, Beauty and uhh...

Dang I forgot the other components of goodness.

It stands to reason that people who are beautiful are more good and thus more truthful.
