Well you did it wrong, so no.

The arrow didn't kill the adventurer, man. Unless things have changed since 40d, arrows always kill adventurers.

Umm... DF is pretty realistic. If I get shot in the knee, I can't stand, but I'm not necessarily dead. It's the next few shots that bury themselves in my heart or my brain, or the angry swordsman who's running toward me, that tend to kill me.

Not immediately. You would stay alive until next few shoots or angry swordsman.
