It could also be argued that an intensively-farmed animal you eat is contributing more ecological damage than some wild animal is. For the basic reason that wild animals do not damage the ecology because they're already part of a balanced system.

You've definitely got a much smaller ecosystem and carbon footprint if you consume wild game. So unless they hunt endangered species, which was a royal screw up, you'd have more of a point arguing that the amount of fuel used to get these people out there was a waste of resources and added to the CO₂ in the air, rather than the fact that they ate meat on the island was an environmental catastrophe.

Well, if a small number of people do it then it's fine, but with populations like we have today, industrial-scale farming is the only way to sustain it without utterly destroying the ecosystem. Obviously it's not perfect, but we've got a ways to go before people start eating synthesised food or whatever.

Is the existence of luxury products necessarily a classism issue? I don't know enough about class warfare theory or w/e you're basing that off to say.
