Coffee addiction is a real thing. Can't say how severe it can actually get, but it definitely happens.

As for whether it's "safe" to joke about, who gives a fuck? The less "safe" a topic is, the better the laughs to be had.
Also my current WTF is probably the in-depth the discussion I just participated about the origins of a mysterious cardboard box that turned up in the kitchen. We eventually arrived at the conclusion that it was probably used by Solid Snake to sneak into our house, and that we're only just now realising due to having terrible AI.

Just had an experience with a man that embodies every single white southern US male stereotype one can think of. He's a sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, card carrying member of the KKK and NRA at the same time. I basically was forced to listen to him prattle on as I waited for my bus to arrive.

Here's one of the pearls of wisdom he imparted to me.

"You know those Mexicans right? Well, everyone one of is using the same social security number."

I actually thought on that and came to the conclusion that the name attached to that SSN can only be Speedy Gonzales. I mean, how else are they going to explain how they're all over the country at the same time.

I'm not sure coffee addiction would be an addiction to coffee (the physiological addiction, that is, not psychological) or if it would be an addiction to caffeine. Only reason I'm not sure is coffee may have some OTHER stuff in it that forms and addiction.

Nah, it's caffeine. Caffeine's pretty habit-forming. I read somewhere that after a week of caffing it up you end up being back where you started WHEN ON CAFFEINE. I.e. you're as alert as a non-coffee-drinking person.

Anecdotal evidence "confirms" this for me, I've had times where I drank enough that quintuple shots of expresso did nothing for me.
