The mythical kind = the normal kind. But they lack the supposed powers. There were never two kinds of tanuki. Just like fox magic was attributed to normal foxes, not a separate kind. So when you say tanuki skin, you're talking about skinning the normal animal, not some hypothetical separate species.

Why can't advertisements be wholesome and family-friendly anymore? Back in my day, dairy was advertised with people screaming hysterically while crumbling into dust, or having their limbs fall off, all while an announcer explained that they died because they didn't drink milk.

Steven Moffat is one of those writers who needs a team of normal people who tell him when his writing is getting dumb. Sonic sunglasses? Really?

Honestly YES!

Even when he isn't being dumb his story writing can get hacky...

Just watch Dr. Who Dreamlands and watch the total mess of a plot it has.

Though he reminds me a lot of George Lucas. He is a great director but just not without absolute creative control.
