"Do the impossible, see the invisible"
And other less silly examples. It's more impressive and pure as improv, though
There's even good country music, without even counting proto-rock stuff. I sing Country Roads at least once whenever I'm on a long drive home...
Heck, I consider it a personal failing that my music collection isn't even more diverse. Having preferences is fine, but I'm sure there are a lot of gems I haven't found yet because of their genre!
Yeah, right. Condescend at me! It's not like I have any idea what I'm talking about.
You can't defend rap, I'm afraid.
Oh dear, this is more serious than I thought ):
Rap music is essentially telling stories lyrically, to a certain type of beat. There's nothing wrong with the beat, and I *love* rock which tells stories (Phish, Grateful Dead, Nightwish...)
There are some stories I think are cheap pandering shit, like "I have a billion dollars and fuck bitches" or "I killed a dozen people I'm so badass". That's a lot of gangster rap. But a lot of rap tackles issues in a realistic way and confronts people with them. And other rap is just fun.
Really, I say I don't like rap, but mostly I don't like the SUBJECT MATTER of rap.
The stuff that's rap but isn't all gangs and drugs and killificating is pretty good, at leaast judging by the HS album that may or may not be proper rap.

Also this bears reposting maybe, even though it's uh... very atypical:
