Just had a really great Toribash game, though I didn't win. I think it's teaching me to be a better loser. Funny how noone ever says this about gaming, but I think it spiritually helps, especially in mind-to-mind games, to have a string of wins then one really fun game on top form where someone beats you.

Losing tremendously is fun. Dying to hunger tends not to be. Dying to a forgotten best breaking down a door leading to your magma pipes before infecting all dorfs in the vicinity and turning them into mad skeletons before two dragons eat the king and reside in your throne room is more fun.

I don't know, I'm quite fond of playing in deserts and blizzards where dying from hunger is an existential threat always looming around the corner, where only by the industrious labour of farmers and the management of bureaucratic neurotics do any survive ere the caravans arrive and all that are left are a few people picking up vermin for sustenance. And if the caravans don't arrive?

I do enjoy those times where dying to hunger turns into an intense battle for survival OR just scraping by on the barest minimums, mostly because it oft-times drives me to do TERRIBLE things to sate my hunger.
Which is why vampires are hysterical.

What is 'hunger'?  Since updating to 40.x, I've had literally 1 dwarf who was starving at any point, and that was because a tree grew and blocked his pathing from the cavern lake.

  The best part of DF is setting up the fort.  Its watching them die, and watching their world grow.
