There appears to be an automated price war going on on Amazon by resellers of a book I want to buy. Except instead of driving the price down, they're driving the price up. To $1,000 to $7,000. On a book supposed to be worth $20.

This is the primary reason why I'm only two omnibuses into the Gaunt's Ghost series, and why I haven't actually started the Ciaphias Cain series.  Several hundred dollar books, at the low end.

If you can stomach human interaction, I've seen both Omnibi (sp?) at Barnes & Nobles and other book stores pretty frequently throughout last year and this one. Retail is something like $30. Ironic that as Amazon's reach extends, brick & mortar can end up being more cost-effective.

Everyone is underestimating how much hookers cost, and overestimating how much tax they pay...it's usually by the half hour, and $250-300 was normal when I was a kid many years ago. I hesitate to think what it would cost now. If someone actually has the job title 'escort' then you're looking at more upmarket clientele and higher prices.

Maybe some sort of street-skanks are cheaper, but if you're talking any sort of established place in a first world country, you're talking big dollars.

Prices vary depending on where you live. Assume ~$70 per gram for decently pure stuff in most major cities, and around 35 lines per gram if it falls into the middle ground in terms of how finely it was chopped. But for a dedicated user, 1g per day would probably be on the low end, so £50 service would be lowest-of-the-low end, even for drug addicted messes, never mind professionals. High class would easily get into the hundreds of dollars.
