I dunno. The bit I've read of Chaucer- the Pardoner's Tale- was nowhere near as entertaining nor as funny as that animation and story combined.

Honestly more than anything else fanfiction is human creative tendencies coming full circle. For a decent stretch of time people actually derided works for being derivative, as if almost everything wasn't.
