There's a nice records place near me. They even buy old DVDs!

There used to be a DnD/comic/clothes/vidya game shop here that was my go-to place for nerdgasms. It's a shame it shut down. We have a serious dearth of tabletop RPG products. If gamestop had a selection like that place I'd be their #1 customer.

My town has a pretty cool toy store that is pretty small but very packed. It has WH40k stuff and games in the back and some dudes come to play mtg there every last Saturday of the month.

We've got two gaming stores in town. One focuses mostly on comics, card games, and old (I mean REALLY old) video games. The other still has card games, but also sells a ton of board and tabletop games along with every sort of die imaginable. I tend to visit this second store.

That's about right. It also seems to be a transition point. A lot of upper boarders go directly to Forum Games & Roleplaying rather then descend slowly to the Curses forum then finally the lower boards of General Discussion and Other Games. So it's sort of like a river with a lot of dead-end shootoffs that collect a lot of stagnant water and become ponds.

Just called Nintendo to get help resetting a 3ds, and they straight up refused to help me because I gave them a GameStop email address.

Was it work related and what do they have against gamestop?

Yes, it was work related, and apparently they think I'll start running around disabling kids' parental controls if they give me the code. Even though I literally laughed at a kid for trying to buy watch dogs today.

"Naw, jus' sell me dis. I gots money."
"Go get a parent with an ID, and I can sell it to them."

Reminds me of an old web-thingy I used to read about a video game store owner. I have no idea if half the stories were true, but they seemed it.

... I think, technically, unless something has changed, the kid would be legally capable of purchasing the game. Which is the interesting thing in what the kid was saying, to me. ESRB and whatnot aren't (or weren't, anyway), strictly speaking, legally binding. Kid was trying to exercise 'is/'er economic rights! It's almost admirable.

Store policy is a different story, though. From what I recall, many/most of those actually do require ID for stuff over a certain rating, and they generally have a right to refuse custom so eh.

I always did wonder why that's a thing. Would there be people who complained otherwise? Somehow I doubt it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a child has generally  no legal agency until they reach the age of majority, so they couldn't sue gamestop anyway
