One of my favorite subreddits.

Anyway, it is true that a lot of modern music is terrible. So was a lot of music back in the '80s, too. To suggest that modern music is terrible as a whole by comparison is very myopic.

Although I am a fan of I Fight Dragons, and Jonathan Coultan, and Crush 40's work for the Sonic the Hedgehog series (and a Zebrahead song or two, same reason).

Basically never aired on the radio, though.
Which is why I listen to the nostalgia stations, since the songs from the 60s/70s/80s are so much better than the modern music that is on the radio. Billy Joel, Neil Young, the Beatles, whoever wrote "Doing it Right", all really good artists.

I'm torn between wishing I could have been there, and loving my non-mainstream-modern music more.

You know why? Because the good music from back whenever is remembered and still played regularly. Modern music hasn't been sorted like that, so instead, the most popular stuff gets the attention, whether it's "good" or not. Of course, "good" is subjective. Anyway, you want good modern music, go look for it. Hella easy to find new music on the internet. Tons of good shit out there, broski.
