Out of curiosity (read: what-the-hell-ing) of what the book "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil" (mentioned a couple times in the "other Tolkien books" lists at the start of LotR books) exactly was, I googled it. (For the lazy, it's a bunch of Tolkien poems, three of which involve the cheery old yellow-boots guy.) I was quickly stricken by the urge to make a character sheet for ol' Bombadil (a level 30 bard, I will have you know.)

I think I failed the Will save to not confuse DnD for real life. Wait a second...

Who definitely should have been in the movies, but since he wasn't, they gave his introduction scene to Treebeard for "drama", didn't even make it part of Treebeard's introduction, I mean that was an entirely other book! Bombadil was the one who rescued the hobbits from death by tree root, and that was while leaving the Shire, not in an entirely different forest! Wrong side of the mountains, even.
Damn Hollywood. Messing up the entire chronology and mythology by removing the most powerful character bar none.
