You know, it's generally a good idea to always have an AV. Avast! is apparantly pretty good.

MSE is pretty good, free and easy to use. It probably wont get everything though, but I back mine up with a MalwareBytes scan once a week. Keeps me clean.

Having one, sure... the active ones, sometimes less so. Especially if you're on a relatively weak computer Swear to Zeus I've had less problems over the years from viruses and malware than I have from bloody AV programs.

Personally, I mostly just keep an eye on active processes and do most of my 'net browsing with javascript/plugins turned off. Do a scanning battery every once in a while or when something starts acting up, but that's about it. Last scan came up clean... most do, really. *vague shrug*

Meh, I have never (even afkloppen) been infected, except for that one time some doof in computer camp went around with his floppydisk trying to play a game and infected every computer with the Tequila virus. This was in '92 or '93, if I remember correctly.

I stand by Kaspersky as the best AV. It used to be a bit overzealous, but that disappeared over the last year.

Comodo upgraded my Internet Security to premium after they stopped giving out free service for a while, which was great of them :3 I use it now. On all the workplaces, all of them.
