How... how does that even work? Doesn't an online class defeat most of the purpose of a speech class? I mean, I could see a hybrid with most of the scut work done online and then weekly or biweekly meetings on campus or something, but... entirely online? For a class that, I'm guessing, is about public speaking?

But yeah, the email/phone number thing is bullshit and I'm kinda' surprised it's legal. Got a counselor or something you can check with?

So, I'm a big fan of online courses because I don't have to deal with people.

My speech class requires me to give a speech in front of a minimum of 10 people. Any fewer than that and it's an automatic failure.

Really? 10? I'm supposed to dredge up 10 people who have the schedule to meet up for the sole purpose of listening to me talk for five minutes? Are you kidding me?

Good thing I know enough people at church. I guess I'll have to convince them to stay afterwards to listen to me blabber for five minutes every week or so.

I'm thinking about using video editing software after the first speech so it looks like I'm talking to ten people. I'm not sure if the teacher wants to see them the entire time, though. If not, I might just have them switch seats and change out a few people randomly through a variety of takes. They're not supposed to actively participate anyways, so...

...Okay, this is becoming more rage worthy than WTF. Not only does my teacher want the names of each of the ten people that listen to me, s/he wants their e-mail address and phone number, as well. I wouldn't personally be comfortable with handing out this information, much less asking it from ten of my friends. What the heck is wrong with this guy?

Ok I'm like 99% sure that there would be legal issues involved in there somewhere. Collect the personal information of 10 people or auto-fail is pretty fucking morally flawed. Tell your teacher that you wouldn't be comfortable giving out this information and why. If when he objects, go up the chain of command. Normally don't advocate so open handedly jumping up the chain of command, but either this guy is making up the rules as he goes and then failing people who don't play along, or there is a problem in the guidelines. Either way you need to talk to a higher up.

Yeah, that's the issue I'm having with it.

Also, part of the form was cut off when I downloaded it. In addition to the name, number, and e-mail address, he requires the age of the person and their relationships to me.

I'm really not looking forward to figuring this one out. There's all sorts of bad implications, here, and I think I may end up getting the short end of the stick. It's just a $20 fee to drop a class, but that would kick my plan to graduate in February out of the window.
