Written smut has the issue of often failing to balance the story/sex ratio. Too much sex and it's boring as hell. Too much story and it's not sexy.

I find it's much sexier if it's mostly story with some smut. Makes it seem much more natural when everyone isn't boning everything that moves.

Yes.


If I want a good plot with my porn, I tend to go with graphic novels. 90% of them are terrible of course, but some are pretty good. I was impressed with one recently that actually handled rape in a reasonable way, rather than glorifying it as something acceptable.
