By being worthless. Our society can't handle a lack of work, even if it comes with a massive massive increase output. Right now we make all this wealth, and people are given a bit of it depending on how much they worked, then the rest of it is given to a smaller number of people. Under this system it does not matter if we effectively gain infinity wealth. The only people to actually see that wealth will be the people who are at the top of the system. And if we move into a robotic society where human effort is not needed, 100% if the wealth in the world will go to them. There will be no reason for anyone else to survive, and no recourse for them to. The outcomes are ether a giant welfare state where most of the population is held in poverty in the name of humanity, or a war that kills off most of the population.

Ether way, 99.9% of the population if fucked and will at best die out over time.

It's not going to be boredom or for fun. It's going to be to survive. And it's not a choice made by the 'we'. It's a choice that is made by our culture.

I'd like to point out that similar discussions were likely held upon the commercialization of steam power.

I think that simply because of either the inherent limitations of nanotechnology with our current level of material technology or a Machine Cult-like fear of advanced AIs becoming a threat to humanity, we're never /quite/ going to get to the point where technology crowds out human worker.

Went to a pawn shop yesterday looking for an NES. Turned out all their NESs were broken and I wound up buying a DS that a customer was trying to sell to the guy. The only problem with it is that it is very pink.

Though I guess maybe paint it purple? That'd be one of the few ways to improve it. Purple stripes, maybe. If you're going pastels, you might as well go all in, y'know?
