Our company bought a failed start up, a gig economy lawn mowing service. My boss hired the guy he bought it from and brought him in as project manager of it.
The guy.....is just a complete fuckwit.
My particular WTF today from him (he's been here a bit over a month now) is that he keeps coming up with logo designs the complete opposite of what our actual graphic artist has done so far. (He's been told multiple times to focus on other, rather more tangible things. But instead he spends all his energy on useless shit and can only talk in vague, entrepreneurial vision statements.)
So today he is farting out more derivative crap and the logo he posts is the name of the product, on a flat background, where the O in the name is a....PC power button?
None of us could understand it, and he couldn't even articulate what he was thinking.
Everyone, and I do mean everyone that bothered to get involved in the conversation piled on to him throughout the entire day. Unanimously agreed the logos by our graphic designer look better and make actual sense. We try explaining to him what we mean by what we're saying....and he just rattles off more pointless vision statements as a response, which we then as technical people start pulling apart.
"What is the core of this product?" he asks.
"It mows lawns."
"So do our competitors." he responds.
And from there it just devolves into the technical people doing the actual work giving him their well-informed, grounded opinions, and him just stating more vague mission/goal nonsense.
Eventually even my BOSS got in the act as multiple people not-so-low-key started mocking him.
I've been here a long time. And I have yet to meet someone who has been so universally reviled in such a short period of time. We've had employees before that didn't really gel or no one really warmed up to. But literally everyone in the company already hates this guy, and he's managed to be completely tone deaf in how he deals with everyone from developers to marketing people to even other project managers, acts like a hyper active kid or an ADHD adult taking too much adderol, has already touched enough women in the office that he's been told to keep his hands to himself....
Oy vey. I don't see how this guy is going to last here. Particularly because he keeps saying shit like "Well we just want it all to be automatic", like our company hasn't been doing "automatic" things since its inception. As the support guy, I know how much TLC "automation" can require and this guy just doesn't get it. He seems to think his job is just being "an idea guy." Not only do we not do "idea guys" here, his ideas are all basic AF, or straight up incomprehensible. He sold life insurance for a while after the first attempt at the service failed.
When things go live he's supposed to field pretty much everything and it will be really interesting to see him do some actual work. I predict the first problems he runs into, he's going to start blaming our developers (instead of just working with them to fix the problem) and it's going to be magical.
I simply can't believe this guy. He even tried to convince me to spend 2 hours on a Sunday, ya know, my weekend, doing a podcast about an app that isn't even live yet, that mows fucking lawns. Said he thought a "contrarian" would be helpful. I. Don't. Even.
