Once again my stepdad applied bleach to the bathroom. The only thing that I could see that would cause him to do this was stale piss in the toilet. Now, that smell that everyone associates with stale piss is actually ammonia, which urea breaks down into - the stuff you don't apply bleach to unless you want someone to die. In fact, the presence of ammonia in the bathroom is generally the reason why you don't use bleach in there in the first place.

Then again, my stepdad did fail third grade, so I guess that does explain a lot.

I didn't know someone had put ammonia based cleaner in the mop bucket at work once and ended up gassing myself.

I'm pretty sure there's not enough ammonia in urine stains to worry about bleach use. Maybe if you had a bucket of week-old piss marinating in your bathroom.

I took it to mean dried stains on the loo surfaces, not a pool of old, concentrated piss sitting in it. Like, why would it even be there, unless it hadn't been flushed for days on end.
