The things I've been stressed about have become more stressful, but somehow today I am feeling less stressed.
Not sure if it's just the magic of a decent night's sleep or if I've just hit the upper limit of how stressed I can get, bouncing back into a relaxing pool of irrational optimism/apathy. Oh well I'm going to sit and read until tomorrow, when I can actually start dealing with these issues. Might make a quick trip to get sugar at some point.

My modem, cable boxes, and computer motherboard were all fried by a lightning strike Saturday. I have not had internet all weekend, or even TV. Apparently Comcast modems are in fact not protected from this sort of thing.

I was under the impression that most of the protection for such devices comes from your surge protectors, not built into the devices themselves.

Yeah, it kind of sucked, I didn't realize until Sunday when my neighbor had someone come down and replace and fix their thing with the same issue that they didn't actually give me the option to have someone come down. As for the surge protectors, I think the modem was plugged into one so I am unsure what happened, but it got zapped and everything else got zapped through it or something.

The exact same thing happened to your neighbour? Perhaps it didn't hit your modem but the network connection instead, a surge protector would stop the surge frying everything else but not protect network cables from carrying the surge.

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant but I only got two hours of sleep. Apparently one of our TVs was also fried, so we had to get a new one. Fortunately the fried TV was a PoS anyway and will not be missed.
