I now have 3 dwarves named Vab. Announcements are annoying because I can't see the rest of it. But I'm using a graphics set specifically because of truetype, so I'll deal with it.

Nickname them so they all have different names.

I like those thick, legible letters in your screenshot; what graphics mod are you using?

It's likely the TTF mode (notice the squares and discussion).
