Black Prophecy: Closed Beta
« on: September 22, 2010, 11:03:41 pm »

Alright guys, here's the deal.  I applied for the closed beta of the upcoming Black Prophecy MMO, and finally got invited to it after a number of months (registered in March).  I haven't been able to find another thread on this game, so I'm going to give a basic overview of the game itself and my experiences in the closed beta, thus far.  Please bare with me, I've only played it a few hours the past two days, and haven't had time to do much more than the first few missions.

First off, the official website link: http://www.blackprophecy.com/.

Quote
Black Prophecy is a fast-paced 3D real-time combat space MMO with state of the art visuals. Both the Player-versus-Players combat and an exciting storyline in a rich universe are important aspects of the game. - Taken from the Official Website.

For anyone who has played any number of space exploration, space sims, the X series (i.e. X3: Terrian Conflict), EVE Online, or any number of space combat sims like the FreeSpace, you probably get what the game itself is about.

The list of features:
  • State-of-the-art Graphics - Black Prophecy supports some of the best graphics of any space game, ever.  Its wide-range of graphics options support even the newest of features in our newest ultra-modern GPU series.
  • Fast-paced Action and Combat - Black Prophecy is more combat-and-action oriented than any other space sim available, ment to cut down on travel times.
  • Extensive Player-Verses-Player - Black Prophecy offers massive PvP action, featuring singular 1v1 duels, clan wars, faction wars and group battles.
  • Great Story - Black Prophecy's universe, story and background has been created by the award-winning Sci-Fi author Michael Marrak.

The rest of the features:
Quote
Modular ship design
Player ships are not sold as whole, but instead consist of modules like cockpits, wings, engines etc. All these modules are available in different shapes and sizes, which allows the players to customize their ships.

Item modification system
In addition to the modular ship design, players can also further customize their ships by adding modifications to their ship's modules and weapons.

Modular clan station system
Player clans can build clan stations that are expandable through a module system. Different modules add different functionalities to the station.

Resource system
Clans can fight each other to conquer resource stations.

Award and medal system
Similar to an achievement system, players can earn medals and awards for performing specific tasks.

Tactics system
Players can learn and execute breakneck flight maneuvers.

Okay, my browser keeps messing up.  I will edit this post here shortly.

I had registered in march, and only got the invite two days ago, myself.  So far, there is less than 400 American's in the beta, from what I can tell, and the only active beta server is a German one.  Its already all translated and the like, so that isn't an issue, and the controls are what one would expect from a space sim of its type, although it offers support for both gamepads and joysticks.

The game itself is based around mostly instanced battles, either in solo, team, or clan, and features a wide-range of missions, including everything from escorts to 'boss' battles based upon your characters level (a round about way of denoting skill.)  Each level also gives you a number of points to spend upon related skills that allow you to use a much wider array of ship parts, everything from cockpits to different type of weapons (energey, physical, special; lasers, machine guns, flame throwers, ect...).

The game has a built-in chat system, and the ability to jump to various sectors and allows you to choose which side you'd like to be on.  The tutorial is actually rather good, though at the moment in the beta the tutorial pop-up box is a bit glitchy and doesn't let you review the instructions on the previous ones.

Plasma throwers, I believe the weapon was called. Limited range, but alot of damage to shields, along with a very high heat rating.  You have no idea the number of stats and substitics that each bit of armour, weapon, and ship opponent has.  Heat ratings, shielding rates for various parts of the craft, both forward and aft engines, wings, and a lot of different weapons, each of which has stats after stat after stat listed with them.  Remarkable, really, for a game of its type.  Not even X3: Terrian Conflict has so many stats associated with its ship parts, which is saying something; although I cannot quite figure out what.  8)

Lol. Go ahead.  Let me know if any of you are allowed into the beta. If enough DFers are, we could possibly form groups together, or hell, if enough show enough interest, start our own clan and get a space station all to ourselves.  8) 8) 8)

If you registered on the website, they'll send you a specific email saying you've been granted the oppurtunity to join the closed beta. No key involved, assuming you made a proper account, although you'll need to tie your Black Prophecy Community Forum account to it, which is rather simple and email them a reply.  You can download the game via the link they send you then, install it and log on to play even while your information is being processed, which is nice.  :D

The one thing that troubles me though is all of those advanced graphic features haven't been optimized yet, and while my computer is rather better than most low-end PCs, my Nvidia 8800 GT 512MB edition almost doesn't cut it.  :-[  There are some slow downs, and graphical errors, along with v arious other hiccups, but hey, its a closed beta, so what do you expect?  ;D

Nah, you just have to wait until they either let you in by sending you an email or until the open beta comes up.  Sorry fact, mate.  I made this thread to share in all of the excitement, and hopefully I'll figure out how to take some really nifty screenshots for everyone to showcase the game off before the open beta begins.

yup necroing this to say that an open beta is incomming early 2011.

No idea if it will be good or not, the beta forum is mostly in german and it seems like this will be a german dominated game.

However, good news is: The devs claim that it will be f2p, not sure if they mean completely or if there will be item shops..I for one, look forward to trying this out

Considering it's by the same people that made Neocron, I expect it to be amazing and buggy as hell.

True that...

Oh, I forgot to ask: Is there anyone who got into the beta that would care to share their recent impressions of BP?

Necromancy!

I just got into the new North American Beta (European version is now live!). I'm liking it so far, it's a bit rough around the edges ( way too many cutscenes in the first half hour!!) but this is exactly the kind of space shooter I want!
