enable magma buildings
« on: September 16, 2010, 01:41:04 pm »

ok, running 31.12
i cant get any magma forges/smelters running using modded lava,
which is a shame as ive just found a perfect site, sand and no aquifier. no trees either tho, so if i want to not starve painfully before i actually head down to find some real lava i need some glass pronto.
does anyone know how to get the damn things running?

You have to discover magma to build them, not make it appear. Appearing it is only good for making magma closer to you once you've discovered it. (Less pumping)

Quick, cheating answer: DF Hack has an application dfliquids that allows you to spawn new liquids in an area, magma/water included.

So dig your pits beneath your forges and then boot up the application and add the magma. Just be careful, since it can cause heat issues (In other words, make a place for the magma to drain from, put the magma in that place, and let it drain... Then toss enemies into the oven created).

No go, Upright. That is OPs problem in the first place.

dfliquids does not actually count as "Discovering" magma, therefore you need to dig down to get it.

It's also hardcoded. There's no way around it.

what happens if you add 7/7 magma to a still hidden tile and then dig it out?

nothing sadly:P
still it only takes a novice miner about a month to hit lava if your lucky and dont hit a cave
you can then seal up the staircase
lots harder than the app used to be though i very nearly starved while finding the damn stuff, should have dug a farm first, at least id have had some food,
dwarves cannot live on fish alone,

still the fortress is up and almost running,
stable anyway, hit the  100   dwarf mark and the food stocks are stable and the drinks seem to be,

got my 9 z level glass pumping tower in place  and made myself a nice shower head so there are 6 lovly waterfalls flowing down my centreal staircase, lets see the little buggers tantum now! got iron, but no flux, so sadly steel will be in short supply.

another thing, has anyone noticed that the military doesnt train anymore?
they just stand around watching demonstations, noones wrestling!

Military: You have to set up the squads (through the 'm' menu), then assign them to do things with the squad menu (s). Though honestly, I haven't played far enough to need a military, so that whole thing gets me lost. xD

well someone could remake the thing toady only killed embark anywhere when he added stuff to the embark files... so pretty much any utility that screws around with stuff toady has not touch will or should still work. The problem is finding who would do such a task for these outdated gems.
