Its been said Prohibition got started because all the men were busy in the army.

Two years after World War I ended?

Don't doubt the gay alchohol conspiracy maaaaaaaaaaaan. They're working with the Illuminati and Zeta Reticulans to bring a joint NATO-New Soviet Bloc World Order into power and subliminally give you the Mark of The Beast.

Today's sample of utter batshit insanity has been brought to you by MetalSlimeHunt Incorporated.

Well they were going home, but they got held up at Canaries when they ran into a lotus dealer.

Five Thirty Eight is the de facto one for most news sites, or at least was before the New York Times absorbed it and suddenly it wasn't kosher anymore.  Nate Silver and his team proved themselves some of the best prognosticators of 2006 and 2008.

Seriously G-Flex. You'd think you'd know better by now.

And yeah, I just noticed that about the First Amendment! Apparently Congress not establishing a state religion also means it can't make law anything that constitutes anything similar to a religion-based law. Well, better let all the murderers, rapists, child molesters and thieves out. Gotta stay progressive!

PS: Dem pickups: (None) GOP pickups: AR CO IL IN ND PA WI ? Oh baby.

It was awesome when, for the first time in American history, the Obama Administration addressed gays in the military.

This completely unforseen and unknown issue sprang to life after 2008, when before that, no one in this country had the time to consider such a drastic change in social policy. Ever. Ever ever. Conservatives were SHOCKED that such a thing could happen.

Yeah, all those murderers and rapists owe the Bible some royalties, because murder and such is a completely religious issue, predating man hitting another man in the head with a rock.

It's so nice to see Nikov active on the forums again.

Judging by the current Republican minority's plan of "filibuster everything, all the time, until we somehow make the Democrats look like idiots and then vote 90-10 on the exact same same bill", I don't see a 52-48 Democrat majority Senate working much different from the 57-43 one.  Republican House will be fun though, watching Boehner try to pull his foot out of his esophagus for two years will be so much more interesting than Pelosi's serial blandness.

Nikov - It's more like "Infringing on the freedom to speak".  Y'know, stopping people from speaking about things?  I mean, if we stop people from saying they're gay in the military, before you know it we'll have an Orwellian system in place.

The strawman you've created is pretty hilarious though, as it a) misses the point and b) doesn't make sense even with the alternative point you're suggesting.

Now I just need an EL/L/M/C/AC breakdown.

Oh, that's right. Congress can't pass laws forbiding people from speaking. Well, I'll just go leak classified documents and state secrets all day long and claim its a constitutional right...

Sorry. I was trying to rationalize how that could possibly be a 1st amendment right, and got it wrong. Oh well.

So your sexuality is now a state secret?  I guess you could justify it if you forbade straight soldiers from telling anyone they had a wife or kids.

Since you flipped over that post full of stuff refuting you, as per usual, I'll just link again to that federal judge's ruling on the matter.  Everything is a matter of judgment of course, but I don't think I'd be out of line in assuming he knows what he's talking about.

To Nikov:

How about the freedom to believe that one's lifestyle is not inherently evil?

I fail to see a similarity between universally evil things like murder, rape, and so on- stuff that we can all agree is bad on a level surpassing "religion"- and a generally accepted deviation from the norm, a deviation only marginally less popular than left-handedness.

Basically, I see homosexuality as the equivalent of a preference for ham. Sure, some religions don't like it, but I don't see the army kicking out people who like, now that I'm committed to this simile, the occasional sausage.

On a different track, I thought that Republicans (of course, that's separate from conservatives, but unfortunately our two-party system lacks the flexibility to represent most of the political matrix) are the "small government" party. The party of individual liberties. The "you can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead, fingers, one of which will be raised in salute of you, The Man" party.

How exactly is dictating whom may sleep with whom, and checking to make sure that all of the entirely volunteer army is straight as a razor, supposed to be "small government"?
