I trained the new guy today. This means that I don't have to drive over 30 minutes one way in blizzard conditions and construction at the same time to get to work this winter.

I've only been doing my job for roughly one and a half months. Who's awesome? Apparently, I am, considering that the last three people to train for my position had been doing it for more than two years.

Decided to start a new fortress on an island not caring about mining as much in 40d. The island has a brook on the southern end of it (got it from an old thread). From the looks of it, all I really have to worry about is a jaguar and a pack of elephants near the brook.

What makes me feel awesome is that despite starting with an anvil just in case (at a 1000 point cost for the start), I have everything starting off well, and have the necessities under a small canopy until I can get a snazzy cliffside mansion. I think I have an idea to make an island community with houses for each dwarf individually. If I can find a way to get migrants by will (probably have to make a bridge to the edge of the map) I can expand. Otherwise, I'll just let them inbreed a population. I think the bridge idea would be a quicker solution however.

In case I get any nobles to take the cliffside mansion over, I'll have it rigged to fall into the (apparently freshwater) giant lake.

On a side-note DF-wise, I finally got more work done on New Wavehandle's repeater. It still has a bit to go, but I think it might work, provided I got the mechanisms right

Scorpions do normally glow under blacklight. I'm not sure about the black scorpions though.
