If you really want more attention for this thread, you could try using ALLCAPS on the title, or at least the "THE BAY12 DF GLADIATOR CHALLENGE" part of it.

Technically you can run a tournament with less then 2^n people; you can give byes (skip a round) for however many people you're short. This is, of course, a sub-optimal solution.

in that people may get free passes.
with 27, 13 matches and a free pass
14 left, 7 matches
7 left, 3 matches and a free pass
2v2
1v1 - only round that nobody got a free pass into
with 26, someone will get a free pass to the finals.
