P0nd: Can games be Arrt?
« on: September 09, 2010, 11:43:13 pm »

Since Dwarf Fortress is so deep- the stories it makes so (occasionally) surprisingly real- I think that many of us here are familiar with the games/art question.
I've just recently discovered a quite enjoyable game that asks that question directly. And once you've played it, I think you'll agree with me that the answer is obvious.

Sluggish, convuloted controls and needlessly complicated UI killed the game for me.

I saw the first word and was ready to get upset, then read the rest and giggled a little. Very happy I didn't read the spoilers. Totally worth trying even (especially?) if you don't typically like "artsy" games. Just make sure to play through to the end.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.
