SHOW YOURSELF, COWARD!
« on: September 05, 2010, 05:10:46 pm »

Hello fellow dwarfs. I have a question, the nature of which means a lot to my ego.

I have had the normal goblin troubles in my best fortress. There was nothing out of the ordinary:

1. Snatchers show up
2. An ambushed caravan or 6 (thwarted, of course)
3. They bring their beasts of war in a mounted siege with trolls (more practice for the Marksdorf-gauntlet-of-death training)
4. Their armies bring along various *weapon*masters and whatnot

...But that's where stuff gets weird...

Now I have read the Wiki and I know that having a clown lead a gobbo civilization is common, but I had no idea they showed up in person.

On the third siege, I noticed a "badger twisted into humanoid form" etc. amongst the mounted squad of the goblins.

At this point, there is a metric crapton of goblins ranging (har har) from bowgoblins to lashers to the troll candlestick makers.

They splash like water on my traps and Ballista-Induced-Mulching Loving hallway, and, once the majority of the gobbos were slain and my Swordmaster/Axelord brothers were itching for clown blood, it turns and runs away!

Since then I have had easily 3+ sieges, and I have yet to see this clown! From my months of lurking (this is my first topic) I have discovered that killing the clown normally stops the sieges and culls the goblins, so of course I want to get these buggers done with and move onto bigger and FUNner things. Do any of you know if/when it will show itself?

ANY similar situations or stories of dwarfish triumph would be greatly appreciated.

Goblins have no sense of humor. Therefore clowns hate them.

There's a bug in the current version that causes civilization entities with special positions to lose said positions once they exit the map - it happens to liaisons and diplomats (which is why you get a new one every year) as well as civilization leaders.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

But would that bug prevent any and all clowns from returning?

That specific one not coming back is not the problem, it's more of the fact that he showed himself once and then never again have I seen a clown from that civilization. :-\

EDIT:  Another siege and no clown :-\
This is starting to aggravate me... I've begun tunneling through the caverns and whatnot but it's a pain to keep bringing my miners' guards back up to the surface to repel the vastly increasing numbers of goblins when I could have taken out that clown when I had the chance... OH WELL. Such is life in Soviet Ukraine.

Supply on wood and seal yourself off from the outside world forever. No more gobbos will bother you.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

That's not the problem. He wishes to bathe in demon blood.

Without, I'm assuming, time-dilation effects causing unplayability.

That's why you cave the whole map in so the game has to render less map.

Lagbomb. See Document 1a, re. Shurikane's "Project Cube."

And it would still have to calculate the open space.
