My fortress had a swordsdwarf i ordered him to kill some insane dwarf merchants, which he did afterwards he proceeded to hunt down and kill my entire fortress, save for a miller who pased out on a cage trap i checked his status and he didnt go beserk his emotions said he took joy in slaughter, i read the combat reports and it looked like after i killed the merchants my fort stated having a civil war. What the hell happened

It's called a loyalty cascade.  When your swordsdwarf killed the dwarf merchants, he became the enemy of the civilization they belonged to.  That is, your civilization.  Someone else then realized he was an enemy and attacked him.  Because he was still a member of your civilization, the dwarf who attacked him then also became an enemy of your civilization.  Chain reaction follows until every dwarf in your fortress is an enemy of every other dwarf in your fortress.  Fun ensues.

I have a [sarcasm]better[/sarcasm] Idea though.

Get some soap in there, too. Burn dead trees and animals at the same time, and put them in the wooden bins.

And make the soap out of dead elves.

I's a real shame that dwarven "ethics" disallow you from butchering sentients...

I mean, I wouldn't actually EAT an elf, but I'd damn well soapify it to pave my floors with!
