So, how many of you here have played it? Today was the first real practice, took forever, but it was pretty fun. I'm going to be playing offensive lineman, have any of you played in football before? I know you've got to go in each day with a positive attitude, and it'll be fun. Hell, I just slept for 3 or 4 hours because I was so tired afterwards-But it was worth it.

I have played football, American Style. I was a Fullback, Slot receiver, kick/punt returner, cornerback and utility player. Don't take that to mean that I was good at football...I was actually not so good.

Having studied football extensively, what you absolutely need to work on the most is your footwork, depending on where in the line you'll be playing. As an inexperienced player, I'd most likely put you at Guard, and for that you need solid footwork placement and a burst off the snap. Keep your shoulders level, your feet square, your hands inside the numbers, and your eyes on the linebackers to pick up blitzes.

You really should clarify which football you mean.

Football, depending on the nation means

Aussie Rules (Australia)
Gaelic Football (Ireland)
Gridiron (America)
Rugby (Various places)
Soccer (3/4 of the planet)

Naturally, Aussie Rules rules them all ;)

You're pretty big, so offensive lineman is a good position for you.

Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. Rugby is MUCH better. Now the truth has been told, I think when someone says "offensive linesman", I would imagine that they would click to Gridiron pretty fast.

High school age? Yeah, that's big. I'd still set him up at Guard until he can either reliably snap the ball or dominate someone to the outside of the pocket, though.

Well, back at the doctors they measured me at 5'5, but I'm taller than my mom who's something like 5'6 or 5'7, but the doctors said I'm going to hit a huge growth spurt, and they say I might be above 6 or 7 feet tall.

I might as well mention I have asthma, but I take 2 puffs of xopenex(Sort of a inhaler) which opens my airways and stuff, so for most if no all of the practice my chest doesn't start hurting because of no air. But I'm not exactly high school age-I'm 13, and I turned 13 in June. But I'm friends with the, what is it, QB? The guy that throws/kicks the ball, and we joke around a lot in History.

EDIT:Forgot to mention, American Football.

Or Rugby Union.

I played as a wing a few times in league, pivot in league, and then went on to prop in union.

Now someone explain how that works?

Kidding. It was because the token fat kid was hurt. I took on five-eight after that.

Actually, that brings to mind a good point; what the hell is the difference between league and union?

League = 5 tackles, multi people tackles, "fake" scrums and people getting drunk and breaking stuff after games.

Union = Vanilla rugby, I guess.

More or less. Gridiron evolved One way from union, League evolved a different way.

And meanwhile AFL evolved from people who play soccer and like to pretend dance with fairies. The people who played soccer and frowned upon these 'Australian Fairy League'-ers continued to play soccer and be awesome.
It was also origionally called VFL.

Wait, you're calling AFL the fairy sport, when in soccer they fall to the ground at start bawling if another player looks at them funny? Helll no boi :P

Also, I heard the current consensus is it's a fusion of Gaelic football with an indigenous sport, with the odd shape of the ground due to the fact we happen to play cricket, and have a lot of these big ovals handy as a result.

QB throws the ball, K kicks field goals and kickoffs, and P punts the ball if the offense doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

Have they actually lined you up on the field yet, or have you just been doing conditioning?
