Then how is this about your dynasty??? If one of your family lines fail, you should play as another.

Well you can just reload the game as someone else. It's a game about dynasties but you still control one character at a time, and surrendering to a someone should have consequences even if they're a member of your dynasty.

It's mostly game about your specific line of rulers. The rest of your dynasty is only marginally more important than any of the others.

Right up until they rebel against you for the throne.

Not entirely true, I was playing as HRE, and some kinsman of mine was the favourite for the elections, and I ended up playing as him after my ruler died. All my kingdoms went to my sons.

I'm not sure how that makes my statement untrue. It's still one specific line of rulers you play. If anyone other than a kinsmen would have won the election your son would have received all titles but the empire.

Isn't your whole dynasty made of kinsmen?

So the rest of your dynasty is important, as you may end up playing as them if they become your heir. Granted, this only happen if your primary title got seniority or elective succession.

With "your specific line of rulers" I do not mean just you and your sons and their sons etcetc though.

I agree that elective succession can greatly broaden the part of the dynasty that really matters though, assuming they have elector titles of course.

It also increase the pool of possible rulers for you to pick, increasing the chances of getting a genius or the like. In addition, if you really spread your dynasty around your elective empire, you can actually afford to "lose" the election so to speak, as long as a kinsmen get the throne. Maybe it was not the ideal heir, but you don't lose the title.

It's apparently going to be available in a few hours according to people's pre-orders, but I imagine we're really waiting for the 1.1 patch. In any case, release is today!

The spear and shield are waiting patiently to be removed from the wall.

Change log has been up for a while.

The main "WTF R U DOIN, PARADOX" change is adding Italy as de jure HRE in 1066. Going to completely screw up the HRE even more with Italian electoral voters and tons of Italian claim wars. Stahp Paradox.
Apart from that all the other changes are pretty welcomed.

I still don't think the scope of the expansion will be able to please everyone but it should still be a bit fun. Some of the things now open to modding gets me rather excited. Should be possible now to have Barbary pirates raiding coastal settlements. Hopefully that silly forced gavelkind for pagans is not hardcoded and someone can think of a real way to simulate tribal decentralisation.

Well, the only thing that's caught my eye in the patch notes as being truly wtf other than that is

Changed name of Maghreb culture to Berber
considering the Maghreb arabic is a fusion of berber culture and arabic culture, not at all interchangeable.

Forgot about that one. Not a fan of that either.
I doubt I'm going to be moving away from mods anytime soon. Vanilla stills looks like it's going to be an unbalanced minefield. I would say that the Norse look like they are going to be a powerhouse if they weren't stuck with gavelkind which the AI has no idea how to handle at all.

EDIT: The changes to Elective might stop it being the go-to succession laws for all my playthroughs. Electors voting against your dynasty if it's too strong could become a pain (if you don't game with prince-bishops). Might encourage me to try out tanistry in my next non-pagan game.
