I would like to think so. No reason why not, right?

That is sort of what I got from the Paradox news announcement, but I wanted to check that I wasn't the only one that came to that conclusion.

I often don't play Byzantium, but if some of the features correlate to other kingdoms and the HRE, it would certainly appear to be quite the DLC.

Hey, would anyone have any advice on taking land from the Holy Roman Empire?

Does the factional system work with non-Byzantine powers?
In the screenshot you can see that an ERE duchy also has factions. I assume this means that all courts will have factions. Well, barons will probably be excluded and counts perhaps too.

Hey, would anyone have any advice on taking land from the Holy Roman Empire?

I will assume you are smaller than them and catholic, which allows for an Invasion to be requested.

If you are roughly the size of France: just wait for the HRE to enter a difficult war, then request an Invasion and declare war on them. Just mass draft and gather your troops in stacks of up to 10,000 men, then hit the Emperor's personal holdings full force until your war score is at 100%. The odd part is that annexing a large Kingdom/Empire is often little harder than annexing their smaller counterparts, since the war score gained from occupied counties isn't really proportional to the nation's total overall size.

If you are roughly the size of Aquitaine (the kingdom) or smaller: do the same as above, but try to save 900+ ducats for mercenaries before declaring war; conquering land at an accelerated pace is essential as, if the war drags on, the HRE will unavoidably stampede over you. Though the HRE's size is its strength, it is also its weakness, as once it becomes occupied with a front it has a hard time defending its more distant borders.

While this is an achievement most easily accomplished with France, you can also start as William of Normandie and conquer England, France and the HRE, in that order; France is larger than England and the HRE is larger than France and England together, allowing for Invasions to be abused without a proper claim.

Invasions are fun. Managed to take the HRE as an united Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Brittany. You just have to wait for them to get in a terrible war and rush them as quickly as possible. With a doom stack of mercs you can easily take many provinces by sieging and getting to warscore up to 100% without all that much effort. You do have to get really close to the Pope though which can be pretty expensive.

Well, that depends, do you want to try and bag the HRE in a single war or would you rather dismantle it duchy by duchy? Also, which nation are you playing as and which year is it in your game?

Well, I just really want one or two Duchies from them. I'm playing a Serbian which has Om nom nom'd most of Croatia, and put one of its Dynasty on the throne of Hungary (Making it Orthodox(!)). I think the year is about 1140-something.

Well, that will turn out awfully unprofitable, but it is doable in two wars. For starters, do you have de jure claims  to these duchies? If you don't, find a strong claimant who is willing to join your court (don't hesitate to bribe them if improving relations would  persuade them into accepting your invitation) and give him a single barony; that will make him into a vassal and, since you are a King and he is a ducal claimant, he will remain your vassal once you enforce his claim.

As for the war itself, your best bet is waiting for the HRE to join a Crusade or, if you are particularly lucky, get involved in a war against France; both will, given enough time, diverge their levies enough for you to rush them into 100% war score. The important part here is that you need to get, between levies and mercenaries, two or more 7,000~10,000 men regiments, so that you can outright storm the HRE's holdings before they can concentrate on your front.

I personally wouldn't attack the HRE in a crusade. Crusades let you raise your whole levies with no relationship hit. Even if the HRE forces are shattered in Arabia they'll still be able to amass more levies extremely quickly and since Johnfalcon is Orthodox he won't benefit from the crusade at all. If you have a massive doomstack of mercs you might be able to win against the HRE in a crusade if you're extremely quick.

It's best to wait for a war with France or Denmark but they're usually few and far between. Sometimes you can get lucky and have a few states rebel which you can use to steal a couple provinces. Waiting for a full civil war (which seems to happen a lot in the HRE) could also work. Powerful allies are always useful. If you can get the Byzantine emperor on your side you might have a much easier time.

Ohwow. Good luck being the last beacon of Orthodoxy when the Russian states get over-run by the Mongols. Might be worth it to consider converting to Catholic if that's not too gamy for you and/or the Catholic states aren't also getting roflstomped by the Muslims.
