The commercial is also absolute crap. I wanna see shit blow up, not a short movie.

Haven't seen the commercial you speak of (no cable tv) but I can't wait to get my hands on the game.

According to the X-play review, all there IS is movie.

The main issue I have with the plot is the damn daddy/mommy issues. "Metroid Other M " She reaches out towards the baby metroid when it gets blasted into oblivion? Baby's cry? "Con(fucking)fession Time"? Boobs that magically went up two cup sizes directly from SM, then magically shrunk again for Fusion, and a huge ass (Which gets quite a few close ups. Team Ninja doing their part in making a joke out of gamer girls.)?  Samus disabling her power because Adam ASKED her to, and she wanted to show him she could "follow orders". Honestly, the plot better have more to it than that, or I calling it quits on non-prime and console metroids, unless Dread finally lumbers along on the wii.

Even reading the more positive reviews it doesn't seem too interesting. An isometric shooter? Wut?

Edit: Also, short gameplay time and low replayability, both of which are things I've never associated with a Metroid game before.

Agreed, dude. The game uses an auto-aim system that supposedly suckd.

Yes, with the D-pad no less (I haven't played it, reviews say it only gets bothersome in a few spots). And you can/will switch to first person sometimes, but you can't move.

Anyone who hasn't yet should try Zero Mission, preferably on a DS or other non-GBA system, as the GBA has a poor screen compared to the alternatives (DS, DS lite, Gamecube too, possibly?). It has a copy of the original (was it an unlockable thing, or was it always available?) slightly altered to be able to remember one password for you, and it has eight distinct end images that can be unlocked. Besides that, the game itself is very similar to fusion(with the addition of infinite waljumps on a single wall), only in a *very* freeform world with enough hidden passages, secret areas, and workarounds that you can complete the game with less than 10 items, and likely will accidentally use some of the shortucts on your first play through without even realizing it.
Also, ridley on hard mode with minimal items: Very Hard. One hit death from one attack, most/all others can kill in two, and since ridley moves a lot... It would fit very well in I wanna be the guy.

Fusion has a rather difficult secret and an unfortunate lack of sequence breaking.

I quite enjoyed Fusion. Granted, it was the first 2D metroid I ever played (aside from dying alot in the original included with Prime)...

I really hope no-one gets any farther into spoiler territory without using spoiler tags >_> Yes, I know that's nothing major, I assume you got that info from a review, but if not...

Loved ZM. Nice remix of the original, although introducing the Zero Suit was a real screw-up. And Fusion's secret was so insane, I gave up on it.

Wait, you mean spending a few months looking for a hundred percent of the items is not enough to beat the game!?

In Fusion? No. VERY timing sensitive, very hard, very little to gain, very exactly one chance at it per game. For me, getting all the items was fine.
